We believe at Delta Sigma Phi that the sole reason we exist is due to the fact that academics come first. Without academics, the fraternity would cease to exist. This is why we reward members that have made great academic strides in their college career and have achieved high marks in all of their classes.
Most fraternities emphasize
the value of academics for a college student, but Delta Sigma Phi is
one of the few to actually put money behind our claim. We are
probably the only fraternity at Alabama which awards academic scholarships
every fall and spring semester to our brothers and new members/pledges.
This is a huge incentive for our members to make good grades!
Due to a generous donation
from a Delta Sig alumnus, the William Shepherd Honor Scholarships are
awarded to brothers and pledges for academic achievement and student
involvement/service. The scholarships range from up to $500 for
new pledges and up to $1,000 for brothers per semester. In the
spring semester alone, 8 individual scholarships were approved.
A scholarship can be earned
during a new member’s first semester of fraternity participation.
Once a new member becomes an initiated brother, the number of available
scholarships and the scholarship values will increase.
